Winning in Pennsylvania
In 2019, NDCO conducted independent expenditures in Bucks County, Chester County, and Delaware County, Pennsylvania. These highly populated counties have been Republican controlled and are home to over 1.2 million registered voters.
Winning Democratic majorities in these critical counties in Southeast Pennsylvania is so important as we rebuild infrastructure, bridges and roads, provide social services and take steps to combat climate change.
Overlooked has been the role local officials in Pennsylvania have administering elections. To better promote voter participation, electing Democrats who believe in fair elections is critical. The highly populated Bucks, Chester and Delaware Counties are also important to an effective
Democratic coalition up and down the ballot.
NDCO targeted 7 campaigns. All targeted campaigns won.
These newly won Democratic majorities will maintain control of the commission agenda and the county election commission. The digital advertisements that were run on Facebook focused on both election protection and general campaign themes, further providing NDCO with unique research on voter protection messaging and local officials.
Victory in Texas
Democratic county officials in Texas are making progress to expand voting rights. Both Dallas County, TX and Tarrant County, TX have recently instituted countywide polling places. This now means a voter in Dallas County and Tarrant County can now cast a ballot at any polling location in the county during elections. Voters can now vote where it’s convenient, not just near their home. Countywide Vote Centers will prevent thousands of voters from being turned away from polling places because they are in the wrong precinct or they received the wrong information. This follows Harris County (Houston) which implemented countywide vote centers earlier this year.
While Republicans across the country are limiting voting rights – Democratic local officials are instituting policies that will increase voter participation. The impact of these policies in Texas can be enormous, helping move Texas from a solid Red state to a Purple state.
Harris County (Houston) has 4.6 million residents and 2.4 million registered voters
Dallas County (Dallas) has 2.6 million residents and 1.3 million registered voters
Tarrant County (Fort Worth) has 2.1 million residents and 1.1 million registered voters.
Democrats in 2018 had many important victories locally in Texas and across the country. The National Democratic County Officials (NDCO) are working with county officials to help them employ good policy that will have an impact both locally as well as nationally. NDCO is also helping candidates win, supporting Democrats in 2018 in Harris County and Tarrant County that worked to make this a reality.
